Pro-Palestine advocates in the United States have initiated a social media campaign encouraging individuals to join nationwide demonstrations scheduled on March 2 in most U.S. cities. These protests will align with a worldwide day of action calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“Gaza is being gripped by famine. The Israelis continue their bombardment on the entire Gaza Strip and hospitals and critical infrastructure continue to be besieged. And now the Israelis are threatening a ground invasion in Rafah unless a deal is reached before Ramadan. This means we have limited time,” A pro-Palestinian activist said on X.
Israel has threatened to launch a ground invasion of Gaza’s Rafah at the onset of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. This comes despite international calls to safeguard Palestinian civilians seeking refuge in the southern city where over 1.4 million civilians sought refuge.
The protesters will come in response to Israel’s war crimes, as they will encompass members from Arab and Muslim communities, activists, and individuals expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Organizers adamantly oppose the Israeli occupation’s aggressive campaign in Gaza, echoing sentiments expressed in previous large-scale protests held in Washington, New York, Chicago, and Houston.
The nonstop Israeli bombardment has murdered almost 29,000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza, including 13,000 children. Israeli airstrikes have targeted hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and ambulances, sparking outrage from the international community and warnings from rights groups that the strikes constitute war crimes. “On March 2nd we must be out in the million for Gaza. We must be in the million for Palestine. We must make our voices heard. We must take to the streets and ensure that the people of Palestine know that we have their back,” one of the protest organizers said.
The organizers believe that these demonstrations and the simultaneous mobilization of participants across the streets will convey a potent message against one of the most reprehensible forms of modern-day genocide. They aim to harness global solidarity to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing relentless Israeli offensive, which has tragically resulted in the killing of nearly 30,000 Palestinians.
Organizers of the protest confirm, “Our mobilizations at this moment can be more decisive than ever, and we must show our full strength now to ensure a lasting ceasefire and an end to the siege on Gaza.”
Even though 143 days have passed since Israel initiated its aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the support for Palestine and persistent calls for a permanent ceasefire continue to reverberate across various corners and prominent platforms worldwide.
