Granada, Spain | Republic of Palestine

Responding to the call of the Solidarity Network Against the Occupation of Palestine “RESCOP”, which demands the Basque company CAF to withdraw from the construction project of the Jerusalem tramway, the BDS Movement of Granada called on Friday 21/02/2025 a rally in front of the headquarters of the company where several activists in solidarity with the Palestinian cause attended.

Under the slogan: “Get off the Israeli Apartheid Train”, the activists affirmed the need to continue the campaign to raise awareness of CAF’s complicit role, and to pressure the company to withdraw from the project to build two streetcar lines that will connect Jerusalem to the illegal Zionist settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory.  It should be noted that CAF leads one of the few consortia still bidding to build and operate these Tramlines.

Poster by the BDS Movement: “Don’t be complicit with the Zionist entity! Get off the Israeli Apartheid Train!”

According to information provided by RESCOP, “Numerous international companies have already withdrawn from this bidding process: Canada’s Bombardier, Australia’s Macquarie, Germany’s Siemens, and France’s Alstom have already withdrawn from this competition. On the other hand, Systra, a subsidiary of the French state-owned railway company SNCF, has already resigned.”

CAF’s role makes it complicit with the Zionist Occupation and its war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people. The company provides support to the infrastructure of the occupation, which helps it to continue committing daily massacres against the Palestinian people, to continue stealing their and to build its illegal settlements on Palestinian territory.

The boycott campaign against CAF has been going on for years, several organizations in solidarity with Palestine sent a letter to CAF’s board of shareholders asking them to withdraw from this project.

The activists who participated in the rally affirmed that as long as the company does not withdraw from the project, the protest campaign against the company and its complicity with the Occupation of the Palestinian territories will not stop.

The Basque company is not the only Spanish one being boycotted. According to reports, there are 3 other Spanish companies involved in building the apartheid tramway in territory occupied by “Israel”, the Catalan company Comsa, together with GMV and TyPSA, is leading two projects to connect the Old City of Jerusalem with the occupied territories of East Jerusalem. The BDS movement calls for a boycott of these companies and to raise public awareness of their complicit and collaborationist role with the genocidal entity “Israel”.
