Gaza Strip – 17 May 2025
Al Awda Health and Community Association has warned that its critical health and community services in the Gaza Strip are on the verge of total collapse due to a prolonged lack of medical supplies and fuel.
Despite operating under dire circumstances since the beginning of the ongoing Israeli aggression, Al Awda has continued to serve patients across northern and central Gaza through its hospitals and its network of primary healthcare and community protection centers in all governorates of the Strip. However, the organization now faces an imminent shutdown if no urgent action is taken.
According to the association, no medical supplies have arrived for more than 70 days, severely impacting its ability to provide even the most basic healthcare. In addition, the Al Awda Hospital in northern Gaza has not received diesel fuel since 17 April, while the hospital in central Gaza has been without diesel since 17 February.
In response to the worsening crisis, Al Awda has implemented austerity measures to stretch its remaining fuel stock. Seven out of nine ambulances have been taken out of service due to gasoline shortages, and operating hours at several primary healthcare and community protection centers have been significantly reduced to conserve fuel.
Rafat Ali Al Majdalawi, Director General of Al Awda Health and Community Association, issued an urgent appeal to all relevant authorities and international stakeholders to ensure the immediate delivery of medical supplies and fuel needed to sustain operations.
Al Majdalawi also emphasized the necessity of protecting healthcare infrastructure during times of conflict, reiterating the association’s call to uphold international humanitarian standards and shield health facilities from attacks and deprivation.
