On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, a coalition of Palestinian organizations and figures in the occupied territories and the diaspora around the world launched an initiative to sign a pledge against genocide. Within a few hours, more than 7,000 people around the world had signed it.

Why pledge?

According to one of the initiative’s organizers, this pledge is a historic record and living testimony that the majority of the world’s people stand against the genocide in Gaza, while most Western powers and governments continue their complicity or absolute silence in refusing to acknowledge the widespread support calling for an end to this genocide. In addition, the media have sought to minimize and distort the truth, ignoring the huge international mobilisation and drowning out the majority’s voice. In the same context, he added that this is a clear declaration of the Palestinian people’s aspiration for liberation and a clear manifestation of the unwavering position of the peoples who reject genocide.

This announcement today, at this critical moment when two opposing forces are clashing, one seeking to starve and displace the Palestinian people and the other resisting this project and standing firmly on the side of justice and dignity, and at a time when the world rejects Zionism, “Israel” and the United States are promoting a so-called “political solution”, based on forced displacement and starvation, the organizers affirm that the real solution is to oppose genocide and stand with the Palestinian people.

Pledge terms:

  • Condemn the genocide against the Palestinian people,
  • Condemn the use of starvation as a weapon of war by “Israeli” occupation forces,
  • Support an immediate ceasefire,
  • Reject “Israel’s” occupation of Palestine,
  • Affirm the right of Palestinians to return to their land,
  • Call for an arms embargo on “Israel”,
  • Calling for the release of thousands of Palestinian political prisoners detained in “Israel.”

Among the most prominent signatories:

Archbishop Atallah Hanna said: “Signing this pledge is a testimony of truth and conscience. It is a cry against injustice and a message of loyalty to a people being exterminated before the eyes of the world. It is not enough to condemn and denounce; we must demonstrate our solidarity through concrete actions. I call on every free person to sign, because Palestine deserves our full commitment and sacrifice.”

Nkosi Zwelifeli, South Africa:

“We stand with the Palestinian people and their just struggle against occupation and genocide. It is the duty of the people of South Africa to stand with the oppressed of the world, just as the world stood with us in the face of three centuries of colonial occupation and six decades of apartheid. Like the Palestinian resistance today, we believe that despite the support of Western imperialist forces for apartheid in South Africa, we will defeat apartheid.”

Ibrahim NasrallahPalestinian writer (Jordan):

“We stand with Palestine not because we are Palestinians or Arabs, but because Palestine is a daily test of the world’s conscience.”

Tahrir Hamdi, President of the Arab Open University (Jordan):

“In light of the deliberate silence on the genocide of the Palestinian people, it is time to dismantle this web of power structures that enables the continuation of Zionist settler colonialism. I fully support this pledge and commit to taking action in any way possible.”

Carlos Latuff, political cartoonist (Brazil):

“Art is my weapon and solidarity is yours. Signing this pledge is not just an act – it is resistance. It is telling the world that genocide will not happen in silence. Stand with Palestine. Pledge. Participate. Resist.”

Daniel Hadwa, Palestinian writer of Palestinian origin (Chile):

“This pledge makes clear our clear and concise position on what we aspire to today as Palestinians in the diaspora. Therefore, from Chile, I call on all free people of the world to sign and commit to this pledge.”
