Statement of Support for the Convoy of Steadfastness ‘Sumoud’ By the Handala Association – Belgium
June 13, 2025
The Handala Association in Belgium is closely following the launch of the Convoy of Sumoud* from the Tunisian capital on Monday, June 9, 2025. The Convoy is an initiative by the Coordination for Joint Action for Palestine and includes the participation of fraternal delegations from Mauritania, Algeria, and other Arab countries. This united scene reflects the awareness of the vibrant Arab peoples and their determination to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and to support the resilience of the Palestinian people in the face of ongoing aggression and systematic policies of displacement and starvation.
The Convoy has journeyed through several Tunisian cities, including Sousse, Msaken, Gabes, Tataouine, and Ben Guerdane, before continuing its route through Libya, passing through Zuwara, Tripoli, Tajoura, Zliten, and Misrata. The convoy is currently being stopped at the entrance of Sirte while on its way to the Palestinian-Egyptian border. At every stop, both the public and officials, demonstrating the deep popular connection to the Palestinian cause, the sincerity of solidarity with its humanitarian and national message, and reaffirming that Palestine remains the compass and living conscience of free peoples, have warmly received the Convoy.
This Convoy comes at a critical historical moment, as the Palestinian people in Gaza endure a months-long, systematic war of extermination, leaving tens of thousands dead, wounded, or displaced amid deafening international silence and official Arab impotence. In this bloody context, the Convoy ’s journey is not merely a solidarity initiative; it is a practical embodiment of the Palestinian people’s resilience and the Arab peoples’ will to break the siege, expose the falsehood of international standards, and affirm that Gaza is not alone and that the flame of popular resistance will not be extinguished.
We at the Handala Association express our full support for the Convoy of Sumoud and consider it a noble form of popular resistance and a necessary act of struggle in the effort to stop the Israeli aggression and break the inhumane blockade imposed on our people in Gaza.
We also highly value the sincere efforts made by the organizers and participants in this Convoy, extend to them our deepest appreciation, and respect for embodying the values of loyalty, solidarity, and deep faith in the justice of the Palestinian cause.
In this context, we make a sincere appeal to the Egyptian authorities and other relevant parties in western Libya based on their humanitarian, historical, and Arab responsibilities, to facilitate the Convoy ’s passage and ensure its safe arrival at the Rafah crossing, so it may deliver its humanitarian message and fulfill its noble aim of supporting our besieged people in Gaza, who are facing the harshest chapters of siege and aggression.
Glory to the free peoples
Victory to Palestine
