Brazil. June 15, 2025 | A march began in several provinces in Brazil in support of the Somoud Convoy (Steadfastness), which was unable to reach its destination in Rafah on the Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip.
The gathering in São Paulo began in Roosevelt Square (Plaza de Roosevelt). where demonstrators chanted slogans in support of Palestine, affirming the freedom of the Palestinian people and the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea and an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The crowds also demanded the severing of ties with the Zionist entity of Israel, and the march set off towards Avenida Paulista. with thousands of Brazilians, members of the Palestinian community in Brazil, and solidarity activists from various countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Uruguay, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and other Latin American countries.
Political activist Thiago Avila, who was with 11 other political activists on the Madleen boat, was also present and the march started with his moving words: “We, millions and thousands of people, decide to end the genocide that is killing children and starving people, bombing schools, hospitals, and residential neighborhoods. This is not being led by a religious people, but rather by a racist ideology called Zionism, which for nearly 8 decades has been practicing genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people, which exists on historic Palestinian land as a settler regime. We all need to end this fascist regime because it is the right of all peoples. We just need the courage to do so. We need the courage to participate in such a march, to be on the Madleen boat or the Egyptian border with the Steadfastness convoy, and to know that the lives of Palestinians are no less important than the lives of any other human being in the world.”
He emphasized that “the fundamental problem is not a lack of resources or the failure to deliver humanitarian aid, but rather the occupation, which must be ended.”
