The ship Handala sets sail to break the siege for the children of Gaza

The ship Handala will depart from the port of Syracuse, Italy, on July 13, 2025, as part of a new mission by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition to break the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza.

The vessel carries humanitarian aid and volunteers from around the world in an independent grassroots action confronting the silence of the international community toward a blockade that has killed over 6,500 Palestinians and injured 23,000 since March, when the occupying state violated the ceasefire. Among the dead were hundreds who were killed while waiting for food at distribution points controlled by entities backed by Israel and the United States.

This voyage comes just weeks after an Israeli attack on the flotilla’s ship Madeleine and the abduction of 12 civilians who were carrying medicine and solidarity to Gaza.

Handala is named after the iconic Palestinian child symbol, embodying his message in defense of Gaza’s children who have spent their entire lives under bombardment and deprivation. Since October 2023, more than 50,000 children have been killed or injured, and nearly one million have been left homeless.
