WASHINGTON | Special – Republic of Palestine
The United States witnessed one of the largest mass mobilizations in its modern history over the weekend, as more than eight million protesters filled the streets of major cities. This unprecedented outpouring of public dissent represented a sweeping rejection of the domestic and foreign policies of President Donald Trump’s administration.
The massive demonstrations—described by organizers as a “popular referendum on the ground”—expressed a firm refusal of escalating military threats against Iran. Protesters also condemned economic and social policies that reinforce the power of wealthy elites at the expense of the overwhelming majority of Americans.
The movement went beyond traditional anti‑war messaging, drawing a direct connection between “militarization abroad” and “oppression at home.” Demonstrators raised sharp slogans against the overreach of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its systematic forced deportations. They argued that the militarization of borders and the targeting of migrants and refugees are simply another manifestation of Washington’s global policies of domination and aggression.
This extraordinary turnout reflects a growing radical public consciousness that views foreign wars as tools used to undermine democratic and social rights domestically, while fueling an imperial war machine that drains the resources of the people.
Organizers emphasized that the message to the White House and the political establishment is unmistakable: meaningful change will only emerge through grassroots pressure and community organizing capable of building a transnational movement. Participants stressed that creating a future grounded in justice requires international solidarity to confront hegemonic policies and defend democratic rights and social justice. They affirmed that the public square will remain the central arena for reclaiming rights and resisting the march toward war, which threatens global peace and security.
