Israel has been using booby-trapped robots since May 2024 in its genocide against Gaza. It is now extensively deploying them to destroy the area around Kamal Adwan Hospital, causing severe and widespread damage to the hospital and injuring many patients and medical staff.
During the second incursion into Jabalia camp last May, the Israeli army began using these robots for the first time in Gaza. The result was catastrophic, with many civilians killed and numerous homes in the camp destroyed. By the end of May, photos emerged showing two booby-trapped robots ready to explode.
Booby-trapped robots are Israeli military vehicles loaded with barrels weighing tons of explosives. These robots move between homes and residential blocks and are remotely controlled by the Israeli army.
Israel resorts to this type of weapon to cause maximum human casualties among civilians as part of its genocidal war against the Gaza Strip. These robots possess immense explosive power, capable of destroying entire residential neighborhoods.
The Euro-Med Monitor reports that robots equipped with explosives have annihilated entire neighborhoods in Gaza.
A Palestinian trapped in the northern Gaza Strip recounted:
“A huge explosion occurred in the Al-Qassabi neighborhood, close to where we were. There was an enormous sound—the loudest I have ever heard. In fact, the sound of the explosion was louder than airstrikes, and white dust covered the entire area. It was later discovered that the explosion was caused by a robot equipped with tons of explosives, destroying six or seven houses at once. Regardless of whether civilians were inside or not, the occupation army detonated the robot.”
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza, Anas Al-Sharif, previously stated that what is happening in northern Gaza, particularly in the heart of Jabalia camp, is neither an incursion nor a military operation but rather the largest ethnic cleansing in modern history.
Journalist Mohammed Al-Sharif, reporting from Kamal Adwan Hospital, wrote:
“The explosion of the robots near Kamal Adwan Hospital is like an earthquake, destroying everything in its path, both green and dry.”
The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor emphasizes that Israel’s use of booby-trapped robots is prohibited under international law. These robots are classified as indiscriminate weapons incapable of being directed solely at military targets. Due to their nature, they strike civilians or civilian property indiscriminately, violating international law. Using them in residential areas constitutes a crime against humanity in itself.
