American actress Susan Sarandon joined pro-Palestinian protesters outside of Columbia University, one day after the president of the university ordered to arrest of over 108 peaceful protesters.

In a video posted on X, Sarandon shows her solidarity with the protesting students, who repeat her sentiments in a chant. “And, that it is their right in a democracy especially in a place of education, and supposedly higher thought, to be attacked with racism and intolerance is not acceptable,” said the actress, who has been outspoken about Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.” 

“There are many, many people who stand with you. You must know that you inspire so many people, people who are afraid are looking to you and your voices and your organizations and your kindness to make a difference in the situation,” she added.

“You give me hope, to me and so many people,” the actress said. “And in the end, the truth will win.”

Dozens of students rallied demanding the university divest from weapons manufacturers arming Israel. 

15 protesting students were suspended from Columbia University for taking part in the protest. Among them is Isra Hirsi, daughter of Ilhan Omar, a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives.

“We will not be intimidated and will continue to push for transparency on Columbia’s investments, divestment from companies complicit in genocide, and amnesty for students facing repression,” Hiris wrote on social media. 

“We will stand resolute until our demands are met,” Hiris wrote on X after being suspended from the university following her activism.

Since the initiation of Israel’s aggression on Gaza over six months ago, Columbia University, renowned as one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, has become a center for student activism.
