On Friday, January 10, the Istanbul Medical Chamber organized a protest march in front of the Israeli consulate in Istanbul in solidarity with Palestinian doctor Hossam Abu Safieh, who has become a symbol of resistance after standing up to Israeli occupation forces during their raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza.
The participants demanded the immediate release of Dr. Hossam, praising his courage, which has shown the world that confronting injustice is possible even without weapons. His colleagues stated: “Dr. Hossam has been a role model for healthcare workers and humanity as a whole. We, as doctors fighting for the right to health, salute his struggle, which has inspired us all.”
In a press statement delivered by the president of the Istanbul Medical Chamber in front of the consulate, the chamber reaffirmed its commitment to working towards the liberation of Palestine and ending Israeli crimes. The statement called for a genuine boycott of Israel in all fields, especially economic ones, as a means to pressure the occupying state to cease its violations, withdraw from Gaza, and release all Palestinian prisoners, foremost among them Dr. Hossam Abu Safieh.
This move comes as part of a series of international efforts to support the Palestinian cause and shed light on the suffering of healthcare workers who stand on the frontlines saving lives amid Israeli aggression.
